  1. Dear Catnip. We went to lunch at that little Italian Place. It was a cold day with just enough sun to warm the inside of my truck enough to sit there without shivering and remember sitting there waiting for you to arrive. As we ate there was a little sparrow just outside the window. He bounced and hopped around looking for crumbs as we ate and I thought about what a delicate little creature it truly was there struggling to survive and that he was there with you, the same as me. After lunch we sat in my truck and as we spoke I said something that startled you. You left abruptly and I sat there for a long time shivering and writing this poem as I thought of you and of how lucky I was to even have been there.
